The Water Chakra - the Prime Mover of Energy in the Chakra System
The second Chakra is located in the abdomen, the hips, lower back, and sexual organs, and is related to the water element, which governs the flow of bodily fluids. The moon is connected with all waters, as such, the sacral chakra is associated with the moon which pulls the water to and fro in rhythmic motion. The sacral chakra is also the center of unfiltered emotions, sexual energies and creativity. It is the watery element that allows us to flow with the currents of emotion and desire, that take us towards growth, change, transformation.
The pull of the erotic - the pleasure - represents the universal urge to connect with others, to move towards sensuality and sexuality. It is the creative energy that provides the foundations for new beginnings, its richness and fertility expressed and symbolized in the union of the sexes, as all life begins in the waters of the womb. The energy of the sexual chakra connects us to others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement. The central theme of the second chakra is human sexuality and feminine energy. The purpose of this energy is movement and flow, and its function is procreation and sexuality. The energy of the second chakra is the seat of life - the prime mover of energy in the chakra system.

Emotional Identity
Movement is the essence of the second chakra's purpose. Our challenge is to let go to the flow of movement and to feel. Through movement we increase our sensory input, increase circulation, enhance aliveness, and begin to feel sensations. It is the sensations of movement and the feelings that arise which give us the experience of emotion.
Consider the difficulty in feeling emotions without movement (its hard to be still when you are angry or excited), and consider how we control emotion by freezing body movement (we stiffen our jaw, tighten our belly and contract). Emotions are inherently tied in with movement - emotions are a composite of feeling and sensation. We can think of emotions as movement away from painful sensations (restriction or contraction) and movement towards pleasurable sensations (expansion). In essence, emotions are instinctual reactions to pleasure and pain, or we might say sensations are the building blocks of our emotional experience. Sensory data, as the language of feeling is the basis of our perceived reality, and how we feel about something is the foundation of our emotional identity. With a healthy emotional identity you can identify your feelings and their sources, and understand them appropriately.
The basic right to the second chakra is the right to feel. Consider your ability to deeply feel and express your emotions.
Do you value the messages of your own feelings and take action on their behalf?
Do you take time to tune into your emotions, to sit with them?
Do you have the courage to express your emotions, clearly and at appropriate times?
Can you refrain from emotional expression when necessary?

Letting Go to Movement and Flow
Water is the ultimate mover. When we let go and open to the rivers of feeling, we are naturally moved.
What moves you?
How much do you physically move during the day?
Where do you resist movement and change in your life?
Movement is an essential part of the life force. Let go to flow and move. Move through your world in motion, get your body moving. Go dancing. Make sure to drink enough liquids each day. Get in contact with water. Take long aromatic baths, swim in lakes or oceans. Moonlight and the touching of water out-of-doors stimulates the second chakra. The moon, when full, brightens your feelings and makes you receptive to the messages revealed to you in your dreams. Embrace your sensuality, learn about Tantric yoga. Tune into your senses and turn life into a sensuous experience.
The power of the sacral chakra leads to increased self-esteem, positive self-awareness and enthusiasm for life.
