The Throat Chakra - Vibrating into Expression
The throat chakra is symbolically depicted with 16 petals - all the vowels of the Sanskrit language. The element of the throat chakra is ether, otherwise known as spirit in the Sanskrit language. The ether element represents a world of vibrations, and is the universal element called space. Space is a non-physical element that is beyond earth, water, fire and air, which describe the physical world. Ether or Spirit describes the non-physical realm.
The meaning of the Sanskrit name for the throat chakra is "purification". To reach the 5th chakra, our bodies must obtain a level of purification, as the upper chakras require greater sensitivity and have higher frequencies - these are the refined energies of the chakra system. Sound has a purifying nature, as it affects the cellular structure of matter, it has the ability to harmonize dissonant frequencies . Also, the throat chakra is the narrowest area of our bodies, and the bottleneck of the chakra system. As the throat chakra connects the heart and forehead chakras, it is responsible for balancing the worlds of feeling and thought - the connecting point between mind and body. Consciousness of language and truth belong to this chakra. It is here where energy starts to purify and refine its vibration. It is here that we refine our speech - we speak truthfully and authentically, we find our voice.
When your throat chakra is strong and free of blockages, your heart and head will work together in harmony

Sound is that by which the Existence of Ether is Known
The 5th Chakra, located in at throat is related to communication and creativity. Here we experience the world symbolically through vibration, such as the vibration of sound representing language. All vibrations are characterized by a rhythm: a repeated regular pattern of movement in space and time. Our Rhythmic vibrations, or the rhythms of the pulsating of our energy, are the conductors of our internal rhythms, and ultimately our language and speech patterns. We all affect each other, and everything around us by the vibrations or rhythms we carry in our minds and in our bodies. Positive speech, and positive actions, are conductors of positive vibrations, and as such, conductors of a positive Spirit (ether).
Creative Identity
Your voice is the living expression of your basic vibration. Your voice is your creative identity. The voice is the vehicle which the mind uses for its manifestation, it is our creative expression. Creativity is the pure expression of the Spirit / Ether within us. Creativity is a form of self-expression, and communication is a creative act, as it moves the vibrational rhythms of the inner world of thoughts and feelings and expresses them in words to the outside world. The 5th chakra represents your creative identity and is based on the ways your express yourself. Consider how you express yourself.
"Where in your life do you feel most creative?"
"Do you take time to sing, or to express yourself in music?"
The essence of the throat Chakra is to find resonance and harmony with all that is vibrating around you. Begin to listen to the voice within, observe the inner dialog. Take time to be quiet and truly listen. The chatter of the mind will quieten, and the song of your heart, your Spirit, will sing. Your internal rhythms, your heartbeat, your breath, and the subtle movements of your body will begin to merge with the sounds that surround you - with the rhythm around you.

Speech and Communication
The throat chakra is above all the center of the power of communication. The breath and the voice depend on this chakra. The conscious use of language, and the desire to speak the truth in all circumstances, and the ability to express oneself are all dependent upon the energy that arises from this chakra. The 5th chakra also represents our right to speak and to be heard.
"Are there times where you do not full grant this right to others?"
"Do you feel your voice is heard?"
"Do you take time to express your opinions?"
Explore your own powers of communication by reflecting on what you say and how you say it.

Mantras - Instruments of the Mind
Mantra is a tool for protecting our minds from non-productive cycles of thought and action. Mantras, as a tool, can assist the mind towards one-pointedness, calming and quietening the mind. They replace the ceaseless rhythms of our busy thoughts, and therefore cleanse the mind. The vibration of the mantra - the rhythm of its sound - works on a subconscious level, permeating our internal rhythms. The magic of the mantra is not in its meaning, but its vibration, for here we transcend the conscious mind, and enter into the non-physical realm, the realm of Spirit / Ether. Should a meaning be applied to a mantra, the meaning will infuse consciousness and its vibration will begin to alter our own internal rhythms, and the rhythms of our actions will begin to shift and change. The importance of the mantra lies in its rhythm and overall vibration, for mantras recalibrate our vibrational essence.
